Dr. Jonathan Heizer has truly been privileged to share his God given talents around the world. His
exposure to missions work started at a young age when his parents, Sam and Joy Heizer, moved the family
to Nairobi, Kenya. The Heizers lived there serving the local population for almost two years.
The first dental related Mission trip that Dr. Heizer was able to go on was during the summer of 1997
while he was attending Asbury College. Dr. Heizer served in Chincha, Peru with a group of oral surgeons
and general dentists who showed how they were using their talents to serve others. These men truly
impacted the direction of Dr. Heizer's life and chosen career in dentistry, as well as his decision to
use his talents in the Lord's service in foreign countries.
During dental school at Baylor College, Dr. Heizer joined the CMDA (Christian Medical and Dental Association) and began going on mission trips every
Spring with Dr. T-Bob Davis and a group of other dental professionals as well as other students from
both Baylor and Houston dental schools. This annual trip to Matamoros, Mexico continued every spring
even after Dr. Heizer's graduation. From 2000-2010, it was considered unsafe to continue
visiting many of the Mexican border towns.
Upon receiving his DDS degree in 2004, Dr. Heizer and fellow graduate Dr. Chris Reger embarked to the Chimala Mission Hospital in Tanzania Africa. Both Dr. Heizer and Reger
were asked to set up and work in a new branch of the hospital which is now devoted to dentistry.
Since then both local doctors and missionary doctors have continued to run the dental wing. Dr.
Heizer is stil looking for an opportunity to return.
Dr. Heizer has visited Brazil on two separate occasions with a group called Amazon Outreach. Sleeping in hammocks on a river boat in order to reach indigenous
people in remote locations along the Amazon River. First in 2008 with a group from his home church,
Stonewater Church, here in Granbury. On the second trip in 2010, Dr. Heizer was
able to take with his wife, Rachel.
Dr. Heizer has most recently visited Africa again in 2011. This time to stay at and serve the
Open Arms Village in Eldoret, Kenya, as well as the surrounding slums of
CambiTesso. Many of the children who have been given a second chance at life were rescued from
these "slums" which are nothing but giant trash piles where people attempt to survive on a daily
The needs around the world are great. If you know of a specific need for a dentist on an upcoming
mission trip, contact him. He would love to continue making himself available to serve those in need
around the world..
